GDS FUNDAMENTALS

Galileo GDS and airline reservations: a beginner’s guide

Galileo is a name you may encounter in course descriptions and travel-agency discussions. Current Travelport documentation also uses Travelport+. Knowing that context helps you ask more precise questions when comparing GDS learning options.

How Galileo relates to Travelport+

Travelport’s current product information describes Travelport+ as built on the Galileo core GDS. Its Universal API documentation identifies Galileo with the code 1G and explains the Travelport+ naming. Older learning material and current product pages may therefore use different labels.

When a course advertises Galileo training, ask which product and version its examples use. Do not assume every screenshot, command or workflow in an older document matches the environment you will be given.

Understand the reservation task before opening a system

Travelport describes a GDS as a way for agencies to compare and book travel content from multiple suppliers. For a beginner, the useful questions are practical: what the customer wants, which options are available and which conditions must be explained.

A clear itinerary, accurate passenger information and careful reading of fare conditions matter before any system action. Study the booking record and later ticketing or servicing tasks as parts of a workflow, not as one interchangeable step.

  • Read routes, dates and connections carefully.
  • Check passenger information instead of filling gaps by assumption.
  • Explain the conditions attached to a quoted option.
  • Treat changes, refunds and cancellations as topics requiring the applicable rules and authorised procedures.

Build an airline-reservation practice scenario

Write a fictional enquiry for a return journey and prepare two itinerary summaries. Explain differences in connection time and the information still needed to assess each option. Label any imaginary exercise prices clearly; do not present them as live fares.

Imagine the customer asks to change the return date. List the details you would review before answering. The purpose is to practise a careful process, not calculate a real charge or perform a live transaction.

Questions to ask about Galileo GDS training

Ask whether teaching includes concepts, demonstrations or individual practice. Confirm the environment used, what access is authorised and how questions are handled. Travelport publishes its own learning information through its customer support learning area; this is separate from an independent institute’s course.

Intairtech offers live online introductory Air Ticketing & Travel Agency Management training. Its syllabus includes GDS concepts. No Galileo or Travelport+ account, supplier affiliation or provider certification is promised here. Specific access must be confirmed before admission.

Choose the next learning step

If reservation terminology is new, begin with airport codes, routes, schedules and fare concepts. Otherwise, organise questions about booking records and servicing decisions. Bring those questions to a course discussion to check that its scope matches your needs.

Students researching from Islamabad, Rawalpindi or elsewhere in Pakistan should compare actual online delivery and support arrangements rather than assume a city name means classroom attendance. Intairtech’s current classes are online; physical training is not offered.
